What are the fabrics of outdoor camping tents, and how do beginners choose?

2022-06-28

There are usually three kinds of fabrics for outdoortents, PU coated fabric, silicone coated nylon, and crude benzene fiber. Both PU-coated fabrics and silicone-coated nylons require a coating to be waterproof, and silicone-coated nylons are generally stronger and more abrasion-resistant than PU-coated fabrics. There is another value to judge the quality of thetent, that is Daniel, the English letter is abbreviated as D. The higher the Daniel value, the better the material of thetent and the more wear-resistant. Most of thetent bottoms are 40-70D.

PU coated fabric

PU coated fabric is the most economical and cost-effective coated fabric used in mosttents. If you buytents, more than 80% oftents on the market are PU coated.

Silicone coated nylon

Silicon-coated nylon is generally used in high-endtents. It has stronger water repellency, elasticity, and UV resistance, and this material is also lighter. Because the material is good, the price is relatively high. For ordinary camping hobbies For the price, the price is not high. It should be noted here that the process of silicon-coated nylontents is generally very complicated. It takes longer to bond the silicon coating to the nylon, and it is difficult to stick things on the silicon-coated nylon. The seams cannot be glued with tape, and special sealants must be used. Therefore, most of the high-endtents on the market currently use single-sided silicone nylon, and the inside is generally PU coating.

Of course, there are also double-sided silicon-coatedtents. This type oftent is lighter, stronger and more durable than single-sided silicon-coatedtents. It is usually hand-sealed with liquid sealant, which can provide better waterproof performance. The disadvantage is that once it is damaged, there is no way to repair it with tape. It must be sewn or bonded with silicone, so it must be more cherished during use. After the double-sided siliconetent is wet, it will stretch, which requires us Re-tighten frequently.

Crude benzene fiber

Crude benzene fiber is currently one of the lightest, strongest and most durable waterproof materials outdoors. Unlike silicone-coated nylon, crude benzene fiber does not stretch, which means that once it is built, it does not need to be tightened frequently, and crude benzene fiber also has One advantage is that it can be quickly repaired with tape after damage, and it does not absorb water. In addition, it is very light, and it is about half lighter than the same type of silicon-coatedtent. Note that crude benzene fiber is generally more transparent, and you can see the stars and the moon, but privacy should also be considered. If you have a requirement for privacy, then don't buy it.

Although crude benzene fiber is good, the price is also ridiculously high, about 4-5 times the price of silicon-coated nylontents, its flexibility is poor, and its heat resistance is not as good as silicon-coated nylon, so I like to cook intents Be careful, coarse benzene fiber is not as slippery as nylon, so it will be pressed down by rain and snow when used in winter.

As for how to choose, it depends on your preferences, financial ability, and needs. If you pay attention to cost performance, then the PU coating is enough. At present, most of the materials are selected, whether it is a largetent or a smalltent, it can be seen that this material is relatively reliable.

If the economic ability is relatively good, you can choose double-sided silicon-coatedtents. At present, there are basically more double-sidedtents with double-sided silicon-coatedtents. Largetents are difficult to buy, and their sun protection effect is better.
